The main benefits of FES are its animated cutscenes and 3d overworld while P3Ps main draws are that it has more social links with the main party, the option to play as femc and some decent quality of life improvements like a controllable party and skill cards. There’s a lot of factors to consider, both FES and portable have their pros and cons. Hopefully you can determine what best suit yours. My own preference is P3P, but everyone has their own expectations and preferences. Hopefully that was a fairly unbiased evaluation. If you prefer your video games to actually offer immersive worlds to see and explore, and can tolerate some rough edges in early-modern-Persona's gameplay and layout, or you just prefer to use the male protagonist regardless of form, you'll prefer FES. Long story short: if your immersion is going to be based more on the flow of the story and the interaction with NPCs, party members, etc, or you've played later Persona games and don't want to give up as many QoL elements, P3P and its female protagonist route is probably the better choice. P3P also compensates a bit for the lack of save points in FES, by giving you an extra one (just one, but in a place that adds a lot of versatility), and though in both versions, you have to deal with Fusions being randomized, there's a Skill Card system in P3P that allows you to compensate for that somewhat. The gameplay issue you'll hear most with FES about is no party control (not as bad as some suggest in terms of AI, though personally, I found getting to control only one character made sitting and waiting for all the AI allies and enemies every round got kind of boring) P3P avoids all that by letting you control your party. There are a couple really good ones, but the protagonist's nature and a very "pick-up-artist-y" feel to the female Social Links, involving mandatory romances, give a distinct feeling of insincerity to them, which is a little awkward in a game about the power of friendship.Īlso, there are several issues stemming from FES being older, and therefore having more dated gameplay. The original FES protagonist is awkwardly detached from many aspects (deliberate on the part of the writers.and while I see what they were going for, IMO, it didn't work very well), and their first attempt at Social Links, is kind of a mixed bag. ![]() Where P3P makes up for this is through the female protagonist route, which despite being billed as an "alternative" works, IMO, better than the original, just because it has a lot more of the polish that the writing team developed after assessing where things went right/wrong in P3 as well as further developing them for P4, and so it fixes several of the storytelling-related elements, particularly with regard to Social Links. Also, due to lacking the 3D environs, P3P doesn't have fully visualized cutscenes, instead having a Visual Novel style presentation with character portraits against a static background during dialogue, and actions described rather than shown. P3P will not offer either of these, having The Answer removed entirely, and replacing the non-dungeon game world with 2D maps (dungeons and battles are still full 3D environments, albeit downgraded somewhat in terms of graphics). FES also comes with "The Answer" packed in, which is essentially "Persona 3-2", that covers some background information and, as its name implies, answers a few things about the game's ending that some people find unclear. The copy/paste is a bit long, but there are honestly a lot of variables, and it can depend a lot on the player and background, so hopefully it helps:įor FES the most notable advantage is that it's got a full 3D world for exploration and though some might say the graphics aren't quite as vibrant as a modern game (it was made more than a decade ago, after all), I still found it to be extremely good-looking. Your choices are between FES or Persona 3 Portable. Still the P3P female experience is a great one but I would consider to play it after you played P3 Fes ![]() ![]() If you want to play Persona 3 Fes on PC here's the guide I used to do so with all download links in the description: You just see the portraits talking over some background as they describe what's happening and you just have to read it all. P3P has party control and has an the female protagonist option, which adds extra social links and some younger P4 cameos, but you don't have the characters doing the acting and you don't get animated cutscenes. However it doesn't have party control which is a turnoff for many, but there's a mod that fixes that and you can easily install it by just downloading a file, put it in the cheats folder and click on "activate cheats" on the system menu xD (there's plenty videos of that in Youtube) P3 Fes has animated cutscenes and you see the characters interacting with each other doing the acting, which is why I recommend it first.
